K'inil Tz'onot | The Place Where the Sun Enters the Cenotes

In Mayan cosmology, K'inil Tz'onot evokes a sacred threshold - the moment and place where the sun descends into the hidden waters of the underworld. It is a powerful symbol of transition, representing the cyclical dialogue between light and shadow, spirit and matter, life and the unseen world beyond.

This artwork captures that mystical intersection through an intricate circular composition built from hundreds of uniquely shaped and colored shells.

Many are broken, their edges softened by time and tide, creating a textured surface rich in detail and meaning. From afar, the work presents a harmonious whole: but as one draws near, it reveals a universe of micro-landscapes — coral pinks, ocean whites, volcanic blacks, and warm ambers — each fragment whispering its own story.

K'inil Tz'onot invites the viewer into quiet contemplation: to follow the spiral inward, as if into a cenote of memory and myth, where the material becomes spiritual and the ordinary becomes sacred.
